Amazon Review Manipulation Plan of Action: Sample and What Amazon Expects

Review manipulation is one of the hardest deactivations to reverse, because Amazon treats it as a trust issue, not a mistake. Many sellers do not realize that a product insert, a message to buyers or a friend’s review can count. This guide explains what Amazon considers review manipulation and gives a sample Plan of Action.

Quick answer

An Amazon review manipulation Plan of Action must name exactly how reviews were influenced (for example inserts offering rewards, asking only happy buyers for reviews, or reviews from friends and family), show that every practice has stopped, and explain the controls that prevent it in the future. Vague denials are almost always rejected.

Key takeaways

  • Amazon treats review manipulation as a serious trust violation.
  • Inserts offering gifts or refunds for reviews count, even if they say “honest review”.
  • Reviews from family, friends, employees or review groups count as manipulation.
  • The Plan of Action must admit the specific practice and show it has stopped.

What Amazon counts as review manipulation

  • Offering refunds, gifts, discounts or free products in exchange for a review.
  • Product inserts that ask for a 5-star review or route only happy buyers to the review page.
  • Reviews from family, friends, employees or business partners.
  • Joining review groups, review swaps or paid review services.
  • Asking buyers to change or remove negative reviews in exchange for something.
  • Leaving negative reviews on competitors’ products.

Amazon’s own programs, such as Vine and the “Request a Review” button, are allowed.

Weak POA

We have never manipulated reviews. All our reviews are from real customers. We think a competitor reported us. Please reinstate our account.

It denies without evidence and blames a competitor. Amazon usually rejects this.

Strong POA

Root cause: between March and June our packaging included an insert offering a free accessory to buyers who left a review. We did not understand that this breaches the Customer Product Reviews policy. Corrective actions: we removed the insert from all inventory including FBA stock (photos attached), stopped the accessory offer, and closed the email address used for it. Preventive measures: all packaging and buyer messages are now checked against Amazon’s review policy before use, and we request reviews only through Amazon’s Request a Review button.

It names the exact practice, shows it has stopped with proof, and describes lasting controls. Details here are illustrative.

Evidence that makes the appeal credible

  • Photos of new packaging without the insert.
  • Confirmation that FBA stock was relabeled or removed.
  • Screenshots showing old buyer message templates have been deleted.
  • Your written review policy for staff and suppliers.

Never create or edit documents to support an appeal. Amazon checks evidence and fabricated documents can lead to permanent deactivation.

Frequently asked questions

Can a product insert really get my account deactivated?

Yes. Inserts that offer anything in exchange for a review, or that ask only satisfied buyers to review, can be treated as review manipulation.

What if my marketing agency did it without telling me?

Amazon holds the account owner responsible. Your appeal should explain what happened, end the arrangement, and show new controls over anyone who works on your account.

Will Amazon remove the manipulated reviews?

Amazon may remove reviews it considers manipulated. Your appeal should not ask to keep them.

Is review manipulation a complex case?

Yes. Review manipulation cases use our complex-case fee because they need more investigation and evidence.

Can you help with a review manipulation deactivation?

Yes. Our appeals team reads the notice for free, helps identify the exact practice Amazon flagged, and writes a Plan of Action specific to your case.
